“I know how the electronic music industry
can put a lot of pressure on you.”
I experienced it firsthand.
Back in 2011, I started my own artist management agency while running a bi-weekly podcast. I started from scratch, there weren’t any music business schools at that time. I wanted to support four artists right from the beginning. At one point, I hit a wall. Too many tasks, not a clear direction, going out constantly.
And, one day, coming back from ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event), I had a mental health crisis.
Back in those years, the term burnout didn't exist. The mental health doctor gave me a diagnosis and bad meds. He didn't understand what working in electronic music implied. His only advice was to stop what I was doing. The meds were frying my brain and disconnecting me from my emotions and feelings. They even impacted my motricity.
This led me to severe depression.
What saved me was that I kept on practicing my Chinese martial arts. With the secondary effects of the meds, I couldn't do the fast movements of Kung Fu. Instead, I focused on the slow movements of Tai Chi. This practice, coupled with acupuncture and hypnotherapy led me on my healing path.
After this dark night of the soul, I started studying Chinese medicine through
Qi Gong and Shiatsu massage therapy. I started teaching Tai Chi and Qi Gong and became a certified Shiatsu massage therapist. Away from the electronic music scene.
In 2017, AVICII’s passing put light on the electronic music’s other side of the coin. People started talking about mental health.
When Covid lockdown happened in 2020, the electronic music industry was shut down. Consequences were devastating, both on the financial and the mental health sides.
At that time, I was training as a fitness coach. Finally, my personal healing path and the world situation were aligning. I could bring together my Yin and my Yang: my expertise in health and wellbeing with my passion for the electronic music scene.
Today, I’m on a mission to guide you on your path to a long sustainable music career and a healthier life.
